Introduction

Thermal-Magnetic Circuit Breakers:

Thermal Protection Function: (Ensures safety under overload conditions)
The bimetal, which is the cornerstone of thermal protection, is ingeniously crafted from two metals with disparate thermal expansion coefficients. Upon heating, the bimetal elegantly bends towards the metal with the lesser extension. This bending action releases a notch, triggering the opening of the breaker mechanism, thereby disabling the breaker. The bending pace of the bimetal is directly proportional to the magnitude of the current flowing through the breaker, as an increase in current correlates with an increase in heat. This sophisticated mechanism ensures that the breaker performs its overcurrent protection function flawlessly, guarding against load currents exceeding the rated threshold. Magnetic Protection Function (Enhances safety under short circuit conditions) Another pivotal function of the breaker is to safeguard the connected circuit against the peril of short circuits. Such short circuits might ensue from the contact between phases, or between phase and ground. During such occurrences, a substantial surge of current floods through the cables, necessitating the prompt breaking of system energy to curtail damage. The breaker must execute an instant opening to protect the load it is linked to. This essential function is accomplished by a mechanical opening mechanism, innovatively engineered to operate via the force of magnetization induced by the magnetic field created by the short circuit current.
